Tinnitus Support Group Newsletter

September 2011

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Tinnitus Support Group Coordinator at the Norfolk Deaf Association.

I started into this role with the NDA in June this year. Though I do not suffer from tinnitus myself, I have had a hearing loss since childhood and have used hearing aids for more than 50 years.

Lots of my time at the NDA has been taken up with learning about Tinnitus, its causes and implications on the lives of those who experience it. As Group Coordinator I will mainly be involved with restarting the Tinnitus Group. We hope to have 5 to 6 meetings each year, commencing with the 13th October meeting. At most of these meetings we will have a guest speaker or deal with a Tinnitus related topic.

During the past few months it has been good to meet the Tinnitus professionals at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital Audiology Department. Claire Gatenby and Sam Riseley have both been tremendously helpful. I look forward to welcoming both ladies at the first meeting of the Group on 13th October, when they will talk on ‘Benefiting from Self Help and the Support Group’.  If you experience Tinnitus, or would like guidance of how to help manage it, I would encourage you to come along. The group is also open to spouses and family members.

If you require any information about Tinnitus, please do not hesitate to telephone or (preferably) email me. I will be only too happy to help, wherever possible.
